The fund2seed Group has planted its first orchard for customers.

As part of its fund2tree programme, the group is delighted to have planted 93 fruit trees in Rhine Hesse. Johannes Puhr, fund2seed’s managing director in Luxembourg, said: ‘With our fund2tree programme, we offer our customers the opportunity to experience sustainability and returns as a symbiosis, not a contradiction. The fact that we are starting with 93 trees exceeds our expectations.’ The Luxembourg-based financial group has entered into a tree sponsorship agreement with the German Bienenelfe Foundation, whereby Bienenelfe will plant one tree for every million euros invested in Rhine Hesse, thereby transforming arable land into orchards.

‘Orchard meadows are an essential part of our rural area renaturation measures. Our goal is to transform agricultural land into havens for native animals and insects while producing healthy, regional fruit,’ explains Denise Ulbrich, director of the Bienenelfe Foundation. A scientific study published by the Institute of Organic Farming, Soil Culture and Resource Conservation in Freising at the beginning of 2022 also shows that orchards sequester over 1.5 times more carbon than arable land in the long term. As part of the fund2tree project, around 220 tonnes of additional CO₂ will therefore be sequestered. Customers also benefit from the harvest: ‘Initiators with a minimum of €50 million under the management of the fund2seed Group can decide how to use 50% of the harvest from their respective orchard. This enables our customers to achieve sustainable returns from their financial product, as well as a juicy fruit yield with its own unique story,’ says Nadja Knoth from the fund2seed Group. “It is important to us that all income generated from the harvest is donated exclusively to charitable causes. Involving regional specialists in the cultivation and processing of the fruit also helps to preserve socio-economic regional structures, keeping them away from industrial agriculture.”

This benefits the environment, the region, and our customers.

The orchard in Nieder-Wiesen is just the beginning. Further projects will follow each planting season. Johannes Puhr believes that raising awareness in the financial market of the fact that capital can generate positive, tangible contributions besides causing stock market price fluctuations will be part of the solution to our global challenges.

About Bienenelfe Foundation:

The Bienenelfe Foundation is named after the bee hummingbird, the world’s smallest bird, which is known as the Bienenelfe in German. This symbolises the significant changes that the foundation can achieve on a small scale. With a regional focus and a commitment to ecological and economic sustainability, the foundation demonstrates that protecting animals and nature does not require radical ideologies. Rather than treating living beings as industrial products or imposing animal welfare and environmental protection as a doctrine, the foundation uses heart and mind to motivate people to get involved on a small scale.
